Dengar Blend Metallic Hardcore and Grindcore on Debut EP

Hardcore collective Dengar from North Bay, Ontario, released their debut self-titled record on 12 June. It showcases their experimental sound, where hardcore meets a grindcore burst of energy.

The musicians were working on the record from spring to fall of 2025. Fully recorded in their native North Bay, it sits between two heavy cores:

“We wanted to present an aggressive and energetic sound, with a mix of metallic hardcore and grindcore stylings. The songs are stripped down and short, attacking the listener with only the purest and most intense experience,” says the band’s bassist Mike Perreault to Musiknights.

The songs were created by the joint effort of Mike and Dengar’s guitarist Sean Davis, while drummer Vince Aquilina and vocalist Travis Tiernay contributed to the arrangement development. The lyrics, also written by Travis, touch on personal betrayal, loss, anguish, and the hopelessness of everyday life.

David Stingle mixed the EP, with Grammy Award-winning Alan Douches handling mastering duties at West West Side Music.

Now, the musicians plan on booking more shows, getting out and playing in front of as many people as possible.

Dengar is a metallic hardcore band with grindcore influences from North Bay, Ontario. They formed in the fall of 2024 with Mike Perreault on bass, Sean Davis on guitar, Vince Aquilina on drums and Travis Tiernay on vocals.
