Winnipeg’s Jug released their first full-length, Head, on August 1 via Neon Taste Records.
The album’s track-to-track journey runs through missing the big hardcore punk show, finding things on the floor, “boring stuff like relationships and arguments,” moon cycles, getting abducted by aliens and the meaning of life, vocalist Bret says.
“There wasn’t really a clear vision. We just wanted to continue writing what we liked and didn’t want to disrupt that process. We rehearse and record at our jam space. It’s pretty much a space that’s devoid of anything good and smells awful. Kind of like Winnipeg!” Bret tells Musiknights.
Some of the material dates back to just after the Or Not EP (2023), when a few tracks were already written. As on the previous record, Will Killingsworth mixed and mastered Head.
Now, the musicians have enough material for their next EP and plan to record it soon. Meanwhile, they’re playing live and hope to expand their reach. Their next show is August 30 at Winnipeg’s Public Domain, where they will share the stage with Dutch punks Neuroot.
Jug is a hardcore punk band from Winnipeg, formed around 2022-23. Their current lineup is Bret on vocals, Graham and Spencer on guitars, Richard on bass, and Marc on drums. Their music comes out via Neon Taste Records.
