Groove metal act Pythonic from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, self-released Laws of Karma EP on July 10. The record gathers some of the band’s oldest unreleased tracks that the musicians refined and performed throughout the last year.
Written around the same time, the songs share compositional similarities and, as the musicians state, gravitate towards death slam with their new vocalist, Morgan Warriner, hitting that nerve.

“The oldest song [on the record] is probably tied between “Set You Free” and “Feed the Flames”. If you took the original conception of the songs until when they got put out, they probably took us eight years. But realistically, we refined them over the last year, and we rewrote the lyrics to every song we had when we switched vocalists,” Vincent Kohut, rhythm guitarist and backing vocalist, tells Musiknights.
Morgan Warriner wrote all the lyrics while overcoming physical and emotional struggles. While the EP doesn’t have a central idea, among the themes it evokes are disability, surgery, abusive relationships, fractured identity, and karmic reckoning.
Now, Pythonic prepare to play some shows, scheduled for September, and to write the final parts for the next album, which they are hoping to start recording soon.
Pythonic are a metal collective from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, active since 2015. Although they acknowledge their ‘groove‑driven backbone’, the musicians create without a subgenre box, led by intuition. The band’s two remaining original members are lead guitarist Ryan Hunter and rhythm guitarist and backing vocalist Vincent Kohut. They are now joined by vocalist Morgan Warriner, bassist Max Hiske, and drummer Jayden Warriner.
