Hardcore band Sietch from Montreal, Quebec, released their first EP, composed of old songs they’ve been wanting to share with the public. Recorded at home using mostly digital equipment, the four-track recording took about half a year to embody what they had in mind.
“We wanted it to be a fairly quintessential hardcore EP, and so our goal was to get it right before getting it really experimentally interesting. We knew we wanted the drums to be punchy without being clicky, the guitars had to have that high-end 5150 sizzle, and the bass… Well, we discovered bass tone along the way, and it turned out great,” the band’s guitarist and co-founder Gabriel told Musiknights.
The mixing and mastering took place at Montreal’s Icebox Studios.
The record features tracks “Isolate” and “Hatchet”, united by the musicians’ love of playing them live. However, all four of the EP’s songs are distinct in what they touch on.
“This EP allowed us to explore the themes that we wanted without committing to them too much and allowing one specific thing to define our entire thematic backbone. For example, “Isolate” is a song about learning to self-isolate as a coping mechanism from neglect, not in a misanthropic sense but more so in a forced sort of stoic sense. The EP served as a thematic reference point for us and allowed us to go more in depth on the upcoming record that we’re currently working on,” Gabriel adds.
Now, the musicians continue to play live and keep working on the aforementioned new material, hoping to release it next summer.
Sietch is a hardcore passion project that Montreal musicians Gabriel (guitar) and Bachir (drums) formed in August 2025. After the dissolution of another band both played in, it emerged as something more true to their musical interests.
