Saskatoon act Brackish North Dakotum, who deliver garage punk with elements of post-hardcore, dropped their first album Digital Baptism on September 19. The independently released record is shaped by recent personal experiences and memories of youth.
The project’s members, who currently prefer to remain anonymous, worked on the songs over the winter of 2026, simply producing the sound that felt right at the time. Its final version, however, intentionally captures the spirit of live performance. The album’s recording took place at a local studio.
“[We] purposefully left mistakes [we] made along the way because [we] felt it felt more human than a lot of music today. Everything is so automated and tuned with perfect intonation. [We] wanted to make something that sounded real,” Brackish North Dakotum tell Musiknights.
The songs are partially inspired by the fatherhood of one of the members and reflections on growing up as a teen alongside the southern Alberta hardcore scene in the mid-to-late ’00s.
Now, the band plans to keep on writing new music and eventually start playing live next spring.
