Black Soul Sickness LP by progressive rock band Karcius, was released on 8 May. It is their seventh full-length, entirely self-produced and mixed by the band’s guitarist and main composer, Simon L’Espérance.
The creation took place between the winters of 2023 and 2025. The work was recorded in various studios, including Wild Studio in Saint-Zénon, Oakfloor Studio in Sainte-Sophie, and the band’s own home studios in Montréal.
The seven-track album closes the trilogy arc that Karcius began in 2018 with The Fold and continued with Grey White Silver Yellow & Gold (2022). The band describes the third part as their most emotionally and artistically ambitious work to date. They draw on the cinematic scope of modern prog, the intensity of metal, and the emotional depth of post-rock to create what they call “an odyssey through the fragile architecture of the human psyche.”
“Black Soul Sickness is an introspective voyage that confronts loss, obsession, and rebirth. […] It embraces both precision and imperfection, reflecting the duality that defines Karcius: human yet technical, dark yet luminous. It’s an album that invites listeners to look inward — not for comfort, but for truth,” Karcius explain.
